About Rolfes

At the turn of the century, the Rolfes family was involved in a variety of ventures which included the importation and distribution of supplies, to the growing mining industry.

The late Carlos Rolfes floated Rolfes Limited on 29th October 1925 primarily to import and distribute steel and secondly to incorporate some agencies he had held.

In 1928 he was joined by his brother, Dr Fritz Rolfes, and the company was relocated from Johannesburg to Germiston where the business was expanded to include the manufacturing of blasting accessories. In 1935 the company was relocated to it's present premises on a 150 acre site at Jet Park. At that time safety fuses had to be imported and Rolfes was instrumental in establishing a local manufacturing industry with its associates and partners.

Through good management and sound business principles, Rolfes Limited survived the economic depression of the 1930's and further periods of adversity to become a diverse, flexible and stable organisation establishing many businesses, including the very focused cables division which is currently in operation.

In 1935 the company relocated to Jet Park on a 150 acre site from which it operated for 81 years and recently relocated its upgraded factory to Alrode South.

Blasting Cables

This division evolved from the company's explosives requisites department which has had a historic association with the mine blasting industry since 1928. While the company supplied capped fuses and detonators for many years it eventually recognised an important market niche, and in 1992 specialised by expanding it's Blasting Cable production and discontinuing it's capped fuse activities leading to the blasting cable business as it is today.
